pH Deal

Several variables will affect the pH of a pond's habitat. When aquatic organisms breathe, the carbon dioxide that is released causes an acidic reaction in the water. Pond's pH will increase during the day as photosynthesis by phytoplankton and other aquatic plants removes CO2 from the water. Due to everyone's breathing and the release of CO2, the pH drops at night. The pond's pH levels changing over time. The growth and health of aquatic species are challenged by changes in the pH of the environment.
